After reading the reviews I was a little apprehensive but at such a low price I decided to give this a try. I already have 2 dlink cams I was using for live viewing and motion/sound detection with the mydlink app. Followed the instructions it came with and went through the setup wizard. It detected the nvr with no issues and also found my cams within no problems. Be prepared to remember what passwords you set for your cameras. Fortunately I cycle through a handful of passwords that I useso it wasn't too hard guessing what I set on the cams. After you're done with the wizard your instructed to go online to the mydlink portal. Since I already have an account that I setup to view the cameras I didn't have to create one. After logging in, I saw the nvr listed as a device. Clicked on it and got a message stating that chrome is incompatible. Got on internet explorer and clicked on the nvr device again. The browser said the site wasn't trusted but proceeded to the page anyway with a combination of clicks. You will be prompted for the username and password of the nvr to advanced. When going through the wizard I remember setting up a password for the nvr but I didn't recall setting up a username. I kept getting incorrect login when trying no username and the username of my portal login. You will eventually get to an unauthorized page once you use up the login attempts. Kept trying and after awhile and being a little frustrated decided to try admin as the username..bingo! I got to the dashboard and started going through the settings to familiarize myself with the controls and features. Right off the bat I noticed it did not show or recognize 1 out of my 2 cams. Tried rescanning to try to detect it but no dice. I decided to run through the wizard again but first I deleted it from the portal. Going through the wizard, it again found the nvr and cameras againthis time I got an windows error at the final finish screen stating that the app failed. Closed the error and the wizard screen also closed without letting me choose the finish button. Logged back into the portal and again I saw the nvr device. Got back into the dashboard and this time saw both cams. They were set to recording and verified that through the playback tab. After awhile of messing with the settings going back and forth from the portal to the dashboard the devices, nvr and each cam, became unreachable from the portal. Checked the phone app and it too showed the devices as unreachable. Trying to figure out the issue I decided to switch from my 5ghz wireless to the 2.5ghz on my laptop. Once I switched networks, I went back into the portal and viola.all devices greened up! Switched up the network on my phone as well and same result. Also tried it from my phones LTE network with success. So to summarize, the process was a little quirky and the dashboard itself, although not bad, could be a little tweaked and polished more. I have nestcams too so comparing both systems, nest interfaces are much more refined, both by looks and functionality. But dlink has its place with its affordability and most of all, a lack of needing a subscription to store and record your video. After reading some of the negative reviews and comparing it to what I experienced, dlink must have updated/revamped their software/firmware/dashboard. I mean my installation wasn't problem free but overall it didn't take me that long to setup and get everything up and running correctly. Also to note, I used a windows 10 laptop.experience might be different with a Mac. Anyways that's my 2 cents regarding this product.
