The cord works great!

The cord works as described. I needed to connect my original Xbox console to my 4K TV. Unfortunately, the Xbox debuted in 2001, while HDMI cords did not debut in TVs until 2003. I bought my TV on clearance as a display model from Sears and unfortunately it did not come with a ""breakout cable"", which is the nickname given to these cords. The cord is proprietary, meaning that it will only work with Samsung TVs. This one works fine, and comes highly recommended to anyone wishing to connect old devices that require an RCA cable connection to your newer 4K TVs that do not have RCA or component connection ports on the backs of their modules.

Works with Toshiba ColorStream.

For the few that may find this helpful the HDMI output on my Onkyo receiver died, so I decided to try this gender-cable to connect the component video output of my receiver to the ""ColorStream"" input of my Toshiba TV. I figured purchasing a $5 cable was a good work-around, when the alternative was to buy a new $500+ receiver. Anyway, ColorStream is essentially a proprietary name Toshiba use for their component connection. Mine is a single pin 3.5mm input. The gender-cable takes the standard red/green/blue component cable and turns it into a single pin male input. It works perfectly when using analogue sources (such as my cable box connected to the receiver via component). However it doesn't pass video to the TV from digital connected sources (such as my AppleTV connected to the receiver via HDMI). Some research revealed this is because the receiver cannot convert the digital signal to analogue to do so would break HDCP formatting protocols, and is no fault of the gender-cable.

Make sure you need them.

My mistake: I bought this gender cable because the User Manual said they were necessary for component (red, blue, green) cable connection to my new Samsung UN55JS8500 55"" TV. I had downloaded the User Manual prior to receiving the TV from Amazon, and saw this requirement. However, when I received the TV, these cables came included the box. They're not very expensive, so I decided to keep them as backup cables, in case one set gets damaged. They are exactly the same cables that came with the TV. I haven't had the opportunity to actually put them to use, yet, but I will assume that they will work fine. I have the exact same situation with the RCA composite gender cable.

If you still need something like it for your older consoles, definitely buy this. It's design is great and doesn't conflict with other cables plugged into your TV.

Does the job, but suspect this was an imperfect ""second""

I needed this to plug an old XBox (original) into our Samsung C (7100) series TV - really wish that I had the HDMI option but no joy - the game system is just too old. Seems to work ok but I don't know if the plug that goes into the TV is slightly underspec'd in terms of thickness since it occasionally drops out (with the weight of cable attached to it) - it should be a tighter fit. Also I do see cross bleed on the screen when playing DVDs (but not with games), which I never had when playing to my old monitor that had onboard component inputs. All in all, it does the job. Cost was pricey for what it is, and it should have been in the box but was missing from when I bought the TV (shelf model), so what can you do? That and the fact that the tv is probably 5 years means I'm happy to find cables for it.
