Good image quality, works well in applications

This device worked perfectly with a little project I setup in visual studio. The build quality also seems quite nice, so I think it will last a while. For the price, I'd purchase this unit again if I need another microscope cam in the future.

Great digital microscope for coins, stamps, stamp marks on jewelry. It is easy to use and fun. I have one complain all the still images are saved as .BMP files and i have to convert them to .JPG to use the on the internet. This would also be a fun learning device for any curious child. The all aluminum one seems better than the one with the plastic knobs. It adjusts easy from two places the base pole and the camera both have fine tuning adjustments.

This is a nice magnifier.

Update June 14th: See the attached photo. While messing with the focus, I accidentally twisted it beyond the limit. A thin smear of adhesive is all that holds the scope together. The outer tube and upper focus assembly came apart in my hands. I then carefully pulled the circuit board out. The 2 thin black wires are attached to, and power the ring of 8 LEDs at the front. The entire circuit board moves in and out when you focus. This brings the CMOS sensor closer to or father from the lens (little black thing next to the tube).Disassembly voids the warranty, or at least they mention disassembly not being covered by warranty. Plus it's a little tricky to put it back together. Aside from that, dust particles in the air can settle on the lens or CMOS while they are exposed. On the plus side, it is possible to focus farther ""out"" than the factory setup allows, and that means higher magnification is possible. While playing with it, I managed to get a higher magnification, but the picture wasn't as sharp as it could be. YMMV.Original review: This is a nice microscope. Got it a week ago. I'm happy to have it. Appropriate lighting for the particular situation can make all the difference, but I have yet to figure it out. A gooseneck LED with a dimmer is my preferred first addition. The arm has a bit of side-to-side play. Some play is inevitable using this method of raising and lowering. It's noticeable when focusing, because the focus ring is on the body of the scope. The subject stays in the field of view, but at high magnification any movement is a distraction.Perhaps they could stick a tiny motor in there, and adjust focus with buttons on the cord, as is the case with the light dimmer and remote photo button. I will take some high magnification pix and upload them next chance I get.

Great camera! Even better with DigitalViewer instead of PhotoBooth.

This is a very good quality device, with a solid mount that can position the camera at any angle. It is not rock-solid, but good enough for casual use.If you use it with PhotoBooth on a Mac, you will only get 640 x 480 resolution. To get the full benefit of its 1600 x 1200 resolution, you'll need to use other software. DigitalViewer from Plugable is probably the best. AVP also works. Both are free. You'll need to select or type in the resolution.

This thing is incredible. If you suffer from tiny ingrown hairs or mysterious scalp bumps like I do that you can't see well enough to inspect or extract, you need to order this. The software it ships with isn't great, but works well enough. A fun, practical, useful gadget to play around with and have on hand- one of those things you didn't know you needed until you have it. Great for electronics, hobbies, and finally figuring out what the inside of your own ear canals and nasal passages look like. Attachments are great and help rest it against something to stabilize the image when you're using it outside of the stand it comes with.

Good for SMD soldering or fine mechanical work
by Valued Customer on January 15, 2018

Pros: A great scope for SMD chip work on a budget. The provided base holds a board steady enough for soldering, or fine assembly work, once the height and focus are locked in. 10 minutes after opening the box, I had an 803 SMD capacitor soldered right where I wanted it. The loose camera seems good for inspection at odd angles, or looking underneath objects where your head just won't fit.Con: The provided software is not very useful, but Open Source USB camera software e.g., VLC, works quite well.Overall, I would definitely recommend this device to anyone needing magnification in the 10 x to 100 x range (it's not enough for daily Galaxy S8 or iPhone chip repair). Beyond 100 x , the image quality degrades linearly. This is more a function of contrast and image distortion than an optical limitation of the camera head, so the manufacturer could certainly improve the total usefulness of this scope with software improvements alone.

Impressive but could use upgrade in documentation or instructions

I'm using this on a Apple iMac, and MacBook Pro. This thing is pretty impressive for the money and straight forward to use. I'd like to give this a 5-Star but there isn't any documentation or instructions other than the website stating use PhotoBooth for Mac users. It comes with attachments, but no real explanation of what or how to use them. You're left to using the good ol' trial and error method. The photos are actual size photos of US Penny. Amazing close-up and focus capability. Most excellent for finding Makers Mark on jewelry and looking for that splinter in your finger.

Returning product. Update Aug 22, 2017

Simply speaking. It didn't work. It said it can work with Windows 7 or later. I tried with my working laptop which is running that OS and installed both applications in the cd that came with the package. The product looks need and nice but it didn't do what is suppouse to do. I'm returning it.Update: I received an e mail from Matt, Top Peak. He was very intetested in my satisfacci??n. He sent another microscope and this one works very well.I am going to include a v?deo of my test with this nice instrument. I put 4 starts because the base screws to adjust the focus and zoom are a little loose. So at high magnification the image move a lot. It has to be use very softly. I hace to get use to this nice microscope. Thanks Matt, you have 6 starts for your help.Jorge Vega
