Fantastic Quality to Price Ratio

After reading quite a few positive reviews, I felt I had to give this lens a try. I purchased it right before going to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks for the first time. I figured even if the quality was mediocre, I could get some good snapshots to remember the trip. Like many others have stated, this is a fantastic product for the price that will allow a lot of flexibility in outdoor/nature/landscape photography. The obvious flaw is low-light performance, but proper ISO and the OSS help to take clear images in darker situations. I couldn't recommend it enough if you will be using it for normal lighting conditions and landscapes

Sharp

Super sharp lens! Works well in low light with the a7s bodies. It's not the fastest to focus, but average for the mm range.

Good for the price - But keep your expectations reasonable

This isn't a bad lens for the price. If you are a pixel peeper or comparing it to a more expensive zoom, you will be disappointed.I use this lens and an A6000 with the kit lens as a ""throw it in the briefcase, throw it in the backpack, throw it in the car glovebox"" camera system and it's really OK for that purpose. It focuses pretty fast in bright light, the images are contrasty and reasonably sharp. Will this lens get you pro quality images of your kid playing soccer? No. But it should get you some decent snapshots of the game. A lot better than you would get with your cell phone. Can you use it for indoor sports? No. The slow aperture (f4.5-6.6) prevents that but it is about $2000 cheaper than a pro quality zoom you could use for indoor sports. This lens is great for travel, outdoor events, landscapes and nature photography. The size and weight of this lens make it a great companion for the A6000. If you have baggy pockets (or a jacket) you can easily stuff the A6000 with kit lens in one pocket and this lens in another. But this isn't a pro quality zoom so don't expect Sports Illustrated cover shots. However, you should be able to get some very nice landscape, nature, travel, outdoor event images with it.

Considering the price point, the lens is pretty good. It does have its flaws tho.I used this lens over a year now and mainly tried to shoot wildlife (e.g. animals in the amazonian rainforest) with it. The reach you get is pretty good, because you get up to 315mm when you calculate in the crop factor. Working at 315mm you better use a tripod for sharp images and you absolutly need one for videos. The autofocus of this lens works ok in good light conditions but starts to get very slow and inaccurate in lower light. Also, the contrast of the lens is pretty low (nothing you cant edit afterwards, but straight out of camera the picture often lacks a bit of a punch). Because of the slow speed of the lens it is really hard to use in darker environment such as forests. It is not impossible to use, but be aware that probably 90% of your shots don't end up very good.Thats why I wouldn't really recommend the lens for anyone looking for a wildlife lens. Also would not recommend for telephoto landscape, because the lens is not very sharp. It is quite nice for portraits (in light environments) tho!I would recommend the lens to anyone buying their first telephoto lens without knowing how much he/she will use it and to test if you are interested in telephoto portraits or wildlife photography. The price of the lens is amazing and while I sometimes find it frustrating to work with, it does make fun and you still get some good and nice photos. Start with this lens, but don't expect too much. You can still upgrade later.??
