Wed 2/07/2018 4:46 pm. Asus Vivobook F510UA FHD 2016 Windows 10 laptop. With ugreen adapter, fails a ping test to a known network computer. With old adapter, works.I had this same experience with an AmazonBasics USB 3 adapter, which I returned. And I will return this one, and eek out my technical needs with a few of these things I have lying about from another age, apparently when they used to work.Thu 2/08/2018 7:06 am. ADAPTER OK; WINDOWS BROKENI grovel in shame before these innocent adapters, because I FORGOT important Windows mumbo-jumbo I should've remembered.1. Whenever you plug-in a new usb/ethernet adapter, windows obliterates your ethernet parameters and sets them to a default.2. If you then plug-in the old one, Windows remembers its settings, producing the behavior described above.3. Most (?) system will work with this casual destruction.4. Some won't, including my peer-to-peer fixed numeric address ethernet.5. Once I remembered, fixing the ethernet settings wasn't hard, but much too lengthy for here. Try googling for ""windows ipv4 settings"".
