I am a purchasing consumer, and this review is based on the camera I bought not a free review sample.I am not affiliated with the manufacturer or any retailer and am not receiving any compensation for posting this review.Bottom line: This is your only option in 2017 if you need optical and digital image stabilization in a compact, action-cam, dive submersible form factor. There just aren't any choices. If you don't need OIS, or are using a dedicated gimbal or steady-mount there are many better priced, digitally stabilized options for you. (Yi comes to mind immediately, as well as other Sony cams).Note also, you can add digital image stabilization in post production as well. Depending on the editing software you chose The only time I tried this was in iMovie, (with video captured on another action-cam) and I was not terribly pleased with the result which is what led me to purchase this sony.As a hand held user, I love it. I absolutely need OIS as well as digital stabilization. Surf on over to my YT channel muvoTX and watch some of my vids. I am very happy with the results. The camera itself has gasket sealed doors and a degree of rain - splash resistance. Very nice. I have had mine splashed with no problems. There are flying/plane enthusiast forums where pilots attach this cam to the outside of a plane and fly into the rain. I use the dive case though just to play it safe.MAJOR CONS:>Wind noise is brutal. Even with the reduction switched ON, a very slight ocean breeze sounds like a tornado. (this is my biggest complaint)>When the battery dies, it only records 68 seconds of video and abruptly terminates with no warning. I didn't even realize it was doing this until I got back home and noticed my late afternoon clips were all exactly 8 seconds long. I ended up losing a LOT of video that I thought I captured. So you have to monitor your battery levels. They should have made the red LED flashing or blinking when battery depletes.>Sony AKA-MCP1 lens protector is $35.99. Overpriced for what it is, it should be included in the kit at this price point. AR coatings can be delicate and easily scratched.MINOR CONS:>Live view remote battery will self discharge. Its takes a good month or two but it will slowly deplete its internal battery and there is no way to prevent it, other than charging it. Its not a deal breaker for me since I also use the android app with my cell phone.>The LCD screen on the camera is not illuminated. Would have been nice if they added a small LED to illuminate the display.>Image quality suffers in low light/dark conditions. This is a problem with almost all action cams though.>Glass lens is heavily domed and exposed to scratches.>Better utilization of bluetooth would be nice (not a deal breaker though). I wish this cam could sync input/output audio over its BT radio. The cam does have bluetooth, but its only used to start/stop recording with the live view remote.
