Overall this is a great product for those going out in the backcountry. It's nice to have the added security of knowing that you can get help, regardless of location (Unless you're in a cave, then you're screwed). Satellite communication takes a few minutes usually, but I've sent and received text messages so far, no issues. The weather forecast is also a nice feature that can be very helpful in certain situation when forecasts change hourly. Tracking, allowing family and others to see your progress, is great. The subscription costs are completely reasonable in my book, so no issues there.I remember reading one review complaining that there's no touch screen - this is a outdoor device, one that's going to be used in the rainwhere touchscreens no longer function. So with that in mind, I'm very glad it has physical buttons which remain functional regardless of conditions.Battery life seems good. After about 12 hours of use, sending/receiving a text, getting the weather once, tracking updating every 30 minutes, and turning the screen on regularly, I was at about 75%.The biggest negative is, as many others have said, the GPS planning functionality. My main gripe is that it doesn't snap to trails when plotting a route. You can only place straight, point to point, lines down. This is a real bummer when that 'snap' functionality exists in other GPS apps right on my cellphone.
