It works and supports audio!

I have an old ipod classic with the spin wheel. It has lasted me over 10 years, but seems to be on the fritz. It recently stopped working, erased ALL of my music, included everything I had ripped from my old CD collection, then mysteriously started working again. Apple, of course says it's too late to fix, etc. I also have a 10 year old car that I can plug the ipod into with a 30 pin cable that came with the car, which is the only place I really even use the ipod. I also have aninewer phone, so I really didn't want to invest hundreds of $ in a new ipod that I only listed to in my car, which will also need to be replaced soon. To make a long story short, I purchased this adapter hoping that I could use it to play music from my iphone in the car. I took a chance, doubtful that it would even work, but it did. I can now plug my iphone 8 into my old car radio and play music from itunes. I can even use waze to navigate while itunes is playing. This is phenomenal. I looked at a number of adapter reviews here that said they will charge and sync but don't support audio. This one does. I'm so happy!

Works for older car stereo.

I bought this to use in my car with and older Pioneer flip screen. It had an added cord for iPhone 5s and I could no longer play music in my car because it is not equipped bluetooth. The stereo was expensive and it hooked to three additional tv monitors and that was only problem. I bought this problem in hopes of fixing that but none of the reviews addressed this issue. I am happy to say it attaches directly to the cord and works great with any ten pin device by apple. It does not charge though and that is fine, not why i bought it. Also works with Bose but I bought the bluetooth version for that purpose for same reason of docking but did not want to tie up my phone by the pool. It does not work with a case on the phone but it works. Great product.

It Works!

I had several of these when Apple changed their iPhone/Pads and finally got rid of them just a few months ago. Then I purchase the Griffin StompboxGriffin StompBox Pedal Footswitch Controller For iPad/ iPhone/ iPod touch - Footswitch controller for iPad, iPhone, And iPod touchand needed a way to get from the Griffin 30 pin to my iPadAir 2.After I plugged it into the iPad Air 2, and opening the app, iShred LIVE, it worked. I can turn on the effects and operate everything that iShred LIVE says with a tap of my foot.So if you don't want to put out big money for a pedal, grab your iDevise, this adapter, iShred LIVE, and the Stompbox and have fun

I can still use my speakerdocks!

This adapter works great, allowing me to play music or audiobooks using my Itouch 5 or Nano 7 on my 32 pin speaker docks. It charges, it plays. I don't have to take my Itouch out of its case on either dock. I can even use the remote to start and stop. I have a little wedge thing that I put behind the Itouch to take up some of the weight. It works without it, but I suspect over time it will be a problem. Not an issue with the Nano7. I bought the wedge thing at a craft store for a couple bucks. Eventually, yes, I will get a speakerdock that takes the lightening connectors and give what I have to a family member (I have other older Ipods as well still in use). But, for now, I have a bridge until Apple changes its requirements to 3rd party vendors and allows more space so that I can leave my Itouch in its case.

Works great (one issue), but should have been included with new iPhone 5

This item works perfectly, and I am able to use my Logitech alarm clock with my new iPhone 5. I tried to save some money and purchased the generic Lightning to 30-pin adapter, but it would not play audio, so I had to buy this. Personally, I believe that this item is overpriced and if they are going to charge this price you should get one of these for free with the new iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch that uses Lightning (at least for the first model that switches over, to give people time to find lightning products). When I got my iPhone 5 I waited a few months for a lightning alarm clock and one never came, I finally decided that apparently no one is going to make one anytime soon (I understand why, since this product would only work with a few new users of the iPhone/iPad. So I bought a generic (no sound, so returned it) and than bought this. This works fine it charges the iPhone (I have the iPhone 5) and I can hear audio or wake up to music through my alarm clock). My only issue with this is that it snaps or locks onto the iPhone instead of the 30-pin part, so when you remove the device from the alarm clock the adapter comes off in the iPhone, so I have to take it off and push it back into the alarm clock. If you use two hands you can hold the adapter and pull the iPhone 5 off with no problem. However, I often would get it while still in bed (lean over and get the phone, which I can no longer do). I have found that after some time the iPhone seems to come off a little easier than it did when I first got it, but it still occasionally comes off the alarm clock. - Essentially I think it would be better if the there was no lock mechanism on the adapter or if there was for it to lock to the 30-pin side not the iPhone. In the end this product works and I can use my 30-pin alarm clock. I tried a generic one of this, but it would not transmit audio, so I could not use it. I wish that this was included with the iPhone, but since it is not you will have to buy this if you want to use an alarm clock, since there are none that I can find alarm clocks with the lightning connector.

Works Great with external DAC sound dock
by Valued Customer on April 06, 2013

I got this to adapt my new iPhone 5 to the Audio Technica AT-HA 35i dock. The dock is an external D/A converter and headphone amp. Since it is a pure digital device that bypasses the analog audio produced by the adapter (that's right, there is a little computer system on a chip in the adapter as well as a DAC), I was a little worried that this would all play well together. But it all works just fine. In fact, my prior iPhone 3GS was kinda glitchy with the dock, but no worries or problems on that score with the iPhone 5 and this adapter.Others have also noted that it does not work with car stereo Brand X, etc. etc. While the adapter will interoperate with USB sound input on a car stereo, certain older ones (like the Alpine I own) that take over the iPod/iPhone and display right on the head unit, probably are not going to work. I have not tried in my car yet, but I do not hold out hope.Net assessment is that it was worth money. If you are contemplating getting this for a specific application or product, best bet is to do a little surfing in the reviews and online to get others direct testimony on their specific experience with a particular product or model.

After purchasing 2 cheap knock-off adapters and having both fail miserably (one of them actually had the lightning end of the adapter break off completely), I resigned myself to forking over the money to buy the official Apple adapter. It was not 5-star rated but I took the chance. So far I'm really happy I did it. It charges and syncs both an iPhone 5s and iPad Air with no problem. No error messages, no connection problems. If you have a case on your iPhone, it may or may not block the port, but I was lucky and my case allows me to connect cleanly. This adapter also works with the 30-pin audio cable that came with my car. Plays music through my car stereo perfectly and I can see all song info in the car's dashboard. As this is the primary reason I needed this adapter, I'm very satisfied with the results.

Thank goodness for adaptors!

For those of us who own older electronics that are still fine and functional! There's a lot of money to be made from people who will just ""upgrade"" their electronics based on the CONSTANT AND EVER CHANGING technology of the electronics world, however, there's even more and more money to be made by people who will not give up their older perfectly functional electronics and buy adapters to incorporate their older things into the newer technology. This little gadget allowed me to continue to use my costly installed iPod integration kit in my car and my charging docks for my older equipment. In my opinion, it's best to pay more for an authentic Apple product than to buy a less expensive one and have issues with it later, it's happened to me, from now on I'll buy accessories that are made by the manufacturer of the device I own!

Yes, I know all the ways that the Lightning connection is better than the venerable 30 pin, but darn. I ended up buying a couple of these adapters so I could keep using some of my existing docks (like a combo iPad/iPhone one and my iHome alarm clock). The adapters do what they are supposed to, I can hook up to charge. I have NOT used them to try and have a single sync cable on our machines, seems too easy to lose such a spendy item vs a dedicated cable.Note: The Lightning ""nib"" is pretty short and the 30 pin connection pretty wide, as such it may not actually be able to reach into some iPhone 5 cases to make connection. :( I have to remove my Speck case to dock my iPhone 5 on my iHome. :(

Worth the extra $

I tried to save some money and originally purchased the ""generic "" version .The only thing that it would do was charge ,and some of the time the generic would not even do that .I sent it back , I broke down ,spent the extra money ,bought the Apple version .I should have done that in the first place .The Apple version synchs ,charges ,is recognized in my cars , works with all my 30 pin accessories ,including my SRS Iwow 3d ,which is the main reason I wanted the adapter .If you need an adapter ,read the generic style reviews ,Then save your money and your time ( to send it back ) Buy the Apple version ,in the long run you will be happier .

I do not know if this is a genuine adapter but it works perfectly.

I am unable to tell if this is an authentic adapter or not. It looks like the now broken genuine apple adapter that I have that this is replacing. It just comes in a plastic bag, no packaging, but It works perfectly for the purpose I have it for, connecting my cars AV system to my more modern iPhone with a lightning port. I have been using this for about a month now and it works perfectly. I will update this review if anything changes.

IPOD Adapter

I've bought two of these in the past five months. I have an old IPOD cube that would not fit my new IPOD Touch due to the prong difference. This little guy saved me money on finding a new docking station to listen to my music when working from home. I hurried up and bought a second one as a spare.
