Beginning caveat: This is essentially an Android tablet in a car audio form factor. Some configuration is required in order to unleash its full power. There are some surprisingly good stock applications built-in. The music player is serviceable, and the radio app is better than any satellite radio that I've ever used. The unit has two Bluetooth receivers. One for typical phone connections, and the other (as far as I can tell) is a dedicated internet connection. Your phone will need to be connected to both if you want to stream from the unit and have the ability to answer calls, etc.I bought this to replace a wonky factory unit. I'm by no means an audiophile and 95% of my car audio needs are NPR and podcasts. The sound quality is decent. I found the front/back balance required some tweaking but that may be an idiosyncrasy with my car.Installation was interesting. The unit itself has every wire labeled and follows the standard color scheme. Getting the backup camera to work was a lot of trial and error. Eventually I ended up splicing the power supply of the camera into one of my backup lights, connected that to the signal wire (not the RCA) and connected that wire to the appropriate input on the device. So far, so good. The OBD device worked right out of the box and connected to the stock diagnostics app. Being able to see and clear engine codes from the drivers seat is very cool. The OBD device and my phone have no problem sharing the Bluetooth connection. The Bluetooth internet connection is mostly okay for streaming so long as the provider has the ability to downsample when it detects a slower connection. Spotify works perfectly, Pandora is hit or miss. Optimally, you'd turn your phone into a wireless hot spot and have the unit connect to that. You get far better speeds and less latency. The Play Store is built in, but installing F-Droid (an open source application store) was no different than doing so on a tablet or phone.Storage is expandable via USB and/or a MicroSD card. As a proof-of-concept, I was able to connect a 500GB SSD and use it as a source for music. The power supply needed to be provided independent of the head unit and for a permanent solution you'd want to rig up a way to gracefully shut it down to avoid damaging it. In practice, a 128GB USB thumb drive connected in one of the back ports and a 32GB MicroSD card inserted into the front will likely be more than I'll need in the near future. I am a little concerned that Android does a full scan of the devices on every startup. I doubt that this will affect the lifespan overly much, but it's something to keep in mind.Cold boot time is as stated. The, for lack of a better word, resume function is nearly instantaneous. This was my biggest worry when looking for a new device. The antennas (GPS and WiFi) and external microphone have plenty of wire to spare. The Bad:Screen responsiveness is definitely not great. You sometimes need to tap several times in order for a touch to be registered. I've found the problem to be most prevalent near the edges. I much prefer using the physical buttons. Theoretically, an application designed with large buttons would help with this. The CPU struggles a bit with multitasking. This was really only evident on the first day when I was syncing data and installing applications simultaneously. It has no problem with SNES emulation (for my passengers). It runs an older version of Android. Not really a huge deal. I'd recommend creating a dedicated car account just in case and using gift cards to add money to the account. The face of the unit was slightly too large for the conversion kit that I purchased. Nothing that a Dremmel and some sandpaper couldn't fix.Other Thoughts:It's definitely not plug and play. I wouldn't even consider installing this for my parents and would hesitate doing so for anybody that is uncomfortable around this type of technology. But, once you get everything tuned in just right it really is a useful device.Applications that I use(I am not affiliated in any way with any of these developers)Podcast Addict - PodcastsDSub (from F-Droid) - Streaming from my home serverFolderSync - Synchronizing data from home and cloud providersSpotify (preinstalled) - Online streamingAutoMate - Car friendly interface. Nice big buttons, etc. I'm playing with others as well, but as of now this is my go-toSNES9x - Why? I ask, why not.Tasker - Gold standard for Android automation. More powerful than I can even begin to describe.

I bought this because it fits a standard double DIN frame in the US (Metra/Scoche) and it has physical buttons to mute it in a hurry if I need to. So far this unit has been great! The steering wheel controls worked without an adapter. The touch screen is actually capacitive (hard surface that registers touch with a soft tap, scrolls easily when I slide my finger.) It is not as responsive as my phone, but at this price I wasn't expecting it to be. It's pretty bright as well- could stand to be brighter, but no problems seeing it in the day light. It also has a second bluetooth radio for tethering to the phone for internet connection. I installed a tethering app on my phone and on this unit and I can connect without taking my phone out of my pocket. This is a must for using google maps as the offline maps frequently can't find addresses I enter. I added another app to send text messages from my phone and now that is working as well. Love the ability to use the external mic. My car had a mic built in, so I wired it up and bluetooth calling works great! Don't use the line-out RCA connection. I tried to since my car has a factory amplifier. This did not work well as the unit sent lots of digital noise- buzzing when I touched the screen, etc. I connected the speaker output wires to a separate line-level converter and now it sounds great with no digital noise. I like using Amazon music and listening to podcasts while using the navigation app. If you're tech-savy and familiar with android there is no end to the ways you can customize this thing. Start-up is not an issue as it stays in standby mode when the car is off. It is not too confusing for non-technical people to use it either. If you leave the radio app open it just works like a radio. If you turn the car off while the radio is playing, the same station resumes when you re-start the car. No regrets.

700$ WORTH OF FEATURES, AT A 180$ COST!

I purchased this June 15th, installed it June 17th, and decided to wait until now (July 29th) so that I could give an accurate and comprehensive account of my experience. I was hesitant to buy it at first, just based off of some of the other reviews, but now I realize that their problems may have been caused by improper installation of the unit (improperly connected wires would burn out even a Pioneer). I recommend carefully reading the installation instructions once or twice before starting, and also buying a new wiring harness for your particular vehicle that includes a color code guide. I also strongly encourage you to disconnect the battery before even messing with the wiring or plugging in the unit, otherwise you cause damage to it. Now for my experience using it I really honestly love it. I looked around for a long time trying to find something that was reasonable in cost, but still provided me with all the conveniences of a significantly more expensive (400-700$) unit like a Pioneer, Kenwood, or even JVC. In order to make my review more readable, here's a break down of things that I felt were important. Also, I completed the install on my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, using the Metra 95-6522B Double DIN kit.SOUND QUALITY: The built in equalizer is not amazing, BUT, if you have an app like Spotify you can set the stereo equalizer to Natural or Flat and then turn on the equalizer in Spotify, and the sound is beautiful. As soon as my wife showed me that I could do that, the difference was like night and day. I should also add that I installed a brand new set of Boss speakers in my truck, but no sub-woofer setup.DISPLAY/TOUCHSCREEN QUALITY: Significantly better than the touchscreen stereo I previously had in my truck. It's basically like having an Android tablet built in to the stereo. When using Google Maps, the text is clear and sharp. I can even read my email, or a pdf document comfortably. The touchscreen is very responsive, and doesn't require an excessive amount of pressure.VIDEO QUALITY: I frequently use this to watch YouTube, or Hulu during my lunch breaks, and as before it's just like watching it on a small laptop or tablet screen.GPS ACCURACY: The GPS antenna is great, accurate, and there's almost no lag in position update. What my wife and I will typically do is turn on the mobile hot spot in our phones so that we can connect the stereo to internet, and then use Google Maps to load the directions and start the navigation. I've done this many times for long trips, and it's worked out great every time. Even without an internet connection, you can still use the map and GPS to navigate yourself, which is something we've also done once or twice while stuck out in the woods.WI-FI CONNECTION: I can easily pickup the Wi-Fi signal sitting in the driveway near our home, and download updates, etc Though usually I just turn the hot spot in my phone, and the connection is fast and reliable.BLUETOOTH CONNECTION: I've never had an issue with this unit and connecting to my Android phone or my wife's iPhone, it's easy to setup and modify connections, and connects immediately. I previously had issues with with my old stereo and the Bluetooth connection randomly dropping/disconnecting and then reconnecting, but I haven't had any problems with this one.OTHER: So there are other attachments you can buy to use with this stereo. A Backup Camera, Front Facing Camera, OBDII Bluetooth Reader, and in my case an Amplified Data Interface to keep the stereo on until you open the cab doors. Eventually I would like to install all of these things.CUSTOMER SERVICE: They have great customer service, I got a full response within 24-48 hrs, and they even took the time to send me links to additional components that I might need for my particular install. I'm not sure why they've gotten some poor reviews for their customer service or helpfulness, they honestly do seem to care about doing whatever they can to help you.OVERALL RECOMMENDATION: Having used this unit heavily over the last month and a half, I can say that I wholeheartedly recommend buying this unit. If you've got a used or older vehicle that you love, but don't really want to put a 700$ stereo in it, but still want to have all the features of a newer stereo, this unit is perfect for you. I'm very happy with my purchase, and if this unit ever died on me in the future, I would still come back and buy another one. Also, this stereo WILL fit with the Metra Dash kit for the 2002-2005 Dodge Ram 1500s, you'll just have to cut out some more plastic on the inside of the dash so the unit slides all the way back properly.

So far so good. Works like it says and connects and loads really quickly after the initial boot up and updates. Said it came with a steering wheel control (it did not) and both the in unit mic and external mic for hands free calls are basically worthless. But overall I cannot complain for getting it on a lightning deal. Netflix and GPS are perfect, Bluetooth is flawless and connects to my wifi in my driveway to update the weather for the day in seconds. Mobile tethering is a bit confusing to set up initially but once you figure it out it works like a charm. If you have an import like a Honda or Toyota or you're going to have to manually connect all the stereo wires. This is not exactly plug-and-play but so long as you're not colorblind the installs actually pretty easy. You'll just need to buy 18ga butt connectors.
