When I purchased my ScanSnap S1500M from Amazon in 2012, I did not use the accompanying Carrier Sheet. I put away the Carrier Sheet since the scanner seemed to work just fine without it. Five years and about 10000 scans later, I found that the scanner had problems with smaller items like credit card receipts and personal checks. The leading edge would get smeared four out of five times. I had it cleaned by a local authorized repair shop, but the scanner still smeared about ten percent of the time, and after a month it was back to four out of five times. I tried cleaning the accessible rollers with a Fujitsu cleaning wipe with fair results. The smearing phenomenon always returned in short order.I dug out my Carrier Sheet and have started using it for smaller items. The first couple of items have scanned well. I will have to fiddle with the Carrier Sheet settings on ScanSnap Manager for optimum results. While it is a little more labor-intensive to use the Carrier Sheet, it produces a better scan than without it.I understand Carrier Sheets can be used to scan large, foldable items too. I found suggestions on how to do so on the DocumentSnap blog. Amazon review policy prevents me from posting the URL here. I found the article helpful for when I will need to scan large documents in the future. My Carrier Sheet will getting more use now.
