Adequate way to digitize memories

There was a flood in my home and many of my pictures were damaged. I was looking for a product that would allow me to convert old negatives to digital. This product is decent if you are not interested in having high quality photos. The images I have posted give an idea of the quality of images produced. For the Giza pyramid photos, the photo on the left is from a negative, the photo on the right is a digital photo taken with a 5 Mexapixel camera. As you can see the sky is faded and not terribly vibrant. I found that this product struggled with accurately producing blues and greens. The second set of photos is of Havasu Falls and I had to adjust the settings of the Kodak Scanza to make the water look blue. Originally the water looked green. The photo to the right is a digital photo taken with a 3.5 Megapixel camera. I have film pictures that were developed from these negatives but thought it was easier to compare to the digital photos (they look similar). Overall the product seems to do a pretty decent job with photos of people taken in indoor settings. However, when converting photos in nature, it really struggled. The Kodak Scanza is easy to use and you can convert the negatives quickly. Probably took around 10 minutes per roll of film. Had my photos not been damaged by a flood, I probably would not have purchased this product. I guess I was hoping for a better result. My negatives were approximately 15 to 20 years old so I am not sure if age had anything to do with the quality produced, but then again I would assume that most conversions of film would be at least this old and older.

Very easy to set up and use. Tried it first on 40+ year old slides and the pictures turned out great. then tried some 35mm negatives with nice results too. A very nice scanner for a reasonable price.

I work in film post production, so film scanning is something I'm pretty familiar with - and while I'm only giving 4 stars because this scanner only scans to a linear file instead of capturing the dynamics of the film negative in a RAW file, it's essentially a flatbed scanner for negatives - I'm actually completely happy with the quality of the captures! I captured more than a hundred rolls of negatives in a single evening, the quality is completely reasonable, and way better than the scans I'd made of the prints on a flatbed. It took a long time to choose this model out of the many that are available - and I'm happy I went Kodak. It's not perfect, it's not professional level, if you a photographer looking to scan negative and make big prints I'd spend more money - but if you are just looking to archive your memories so you can see them easily on your computer, this is a great choice.

Good design, good product. The manual, however, needs more coherent writing and all new illustrations.I was a tech pubs manager so I figured out what you were trying to say. I pity those without tenacity.

Once you get the hang of it, the Scanza is easy to use to create and upload positive images from slides and negatives. It offers simple means of adjusting color balance and brightness, and I haven't yet edited the final images on the Mac, but it has successfully digitized 70 year old slides.Price appears reasonable, what is a bit frustrating are the instructions which do not offer basics, but assume one knows how to Power on the unit, and what you use to draw power from the wall and from a computer, also took a few minutes that one must push and hold down the no off button awaiting the power to come on. Open the slide holder is difficult and risks breaking the thin plastic. But it does the job it is designed to do.

Scanner arrived promptly and was very easy to set up. I'm pleased with the scanning results, but I may need to reposition slides to avoid cutting off part of the image. Two suggestions: First, make it easier to remove slides from the adapter tray. Removing slides is the most laborious part of the process.Second, make it clear that the ""Kodachrome label"" on slides is face down in order to avoid reversing the images. I bought this scanner for the sole purpose of scanning Kodak slides; I expect this is the major market and this tip would be helpful.

A moderately priced consumer grade device that works well. Relatively easy to slide my 35mm negatives through, and the review / scanning process is quick. The resulting image file is of reasonably good quality - not suitable for big enlargements, but to get that probably requires a significantly more expensive unit, not to mention the time spent mounting the negatives. I think I managed to process 500 slide images in just over an hour. The built-in image controls are handy as well, I primarily use them to control brightness.
