Description

The AmScope SE400Z professional stereo microscope has interchangeable pairs of 10 x and 20 x widefield eyepieces, a 1 x objective, LED lighting, and a boom-arm stand. The binocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 50 to 77mm and a 30-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain. The interchangeable pairs of WF10 x 18mm and WF20 x 10mm eyepieces combine with the 1 x objective to provide 10 x and 20 x magnification, and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected.

The 1W LED light is mounted on a flexible gooseneck to enable users to direct the light as needed. An LED light source provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive specimens. The microscope has a 13.5 pillar that provides a 9 vertical working distance. Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The 17 boom arm has a 12 working distance. The microscope head can be rotated on the X- and Y-axes. All metal construction is durable and stain-resistant.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

Not bad, but it came improperly aligned front to back

It wasn't obvious at 10 x , but at 20 x I could really tell. The misalignment was about 1 mm front to back at the focal plane. It took 30-45 minutes to adjust the screws so it lined up properly. Hard job if you're 65 and have hard cataract implants in both eyes as I have put on 4 diopter reading glasses to see the screws to align the screwdriver and then take them off to check the optical alignment. Oh, and you need a jeweler's screwdriver with a long shaft. It would have really helped if they had used hex socket screws and included a small allen wrenchAmScope requires you to pay shipping BOTH ways for warranty service. The user manual is provided on the web, but you need a password that is printed on the shipping carton! So if you get one which is misaligned and can't do it yourself, you're looking at a significant charge to have them fix their mistake.I bought it for SMD PCB work. The working distance is great. It is so large (9"") that I was confused when trying to bring something into focus the first time. It's the epitome of Chinese. Cheap and reasonable quality, but needs better QC.Long ago I looked through a petrographic microscope 8 hours a day for 9 months working on my MS in geology.Even if you don't intend to use it at 20 x , check the alignment. If it's misaligned you'll get horrible headaches at 10 x . There were no signs of damage to the carton. So the misalignment was a factory set up problem, not in any way shipping related.

Great scope if you are content with fixed 10 x zoom.

Good:- For this price, you're not going to find a better binocular scope. You can pretty much forget trying to use the digital microscopes with only an few inches of working distance. This allows for easy work on SMD components and 10 x zooms seems to be about the optimal spot.Bad:The 10 x zoom lenses are really the only useful lenses. It does some with 20 x lenses but looking through them is like looking through a straw.
