Seems sturdy, more so than another stand I have, which has several plastic parts (that don't hold positions securely). Height of Basic Stand is about 5"" lower than eye level when I'm sitting on my practice stool (at lowest position). As others wrote, the telescopic tube is resistant to withdrawal, therefore, I left it in place as the height was suitable. The clamp that goes over the end of the telescopic tube needed a bit of expanding with a screwdriver blade so that it would fit. Otherwise, the stand works.
