good- they need a smaller version too

I bought the lodge small and the Amazon basics regular one and the Lodge regular one and a 2 pack of the quilted cast iron pan holders at the same time. Quick review- They all work well, they all are loose on the pans, They should not be left on the pans, but slipped on when deeded. The small lodge grip is too small for my 12"" pan but fine on smaller ones. I wish the quilted ones had a little more padding, but they are enough- even holding and caring the hot pans they stay cool enough. Results: My favorites in order- The quilted ones (easy to slip on and off and will work on any pan. The Amazon basics have little bumps that help the grip a little so it probably comes in ahead of the lodge, but for smaller pans the small lodge one is better.Hope this helps- I like all of these better than a regular hot pad.

Not a license to get crazy. Get a grip and keep it.

Does its job. I've handled three sizes of scalding hot cast iron skillets with this bad boy and done so bare handed. My only criticism is that the heavier pans tend to feel unwieldy one handed as the Silicone Hot Handle allows the handle to swivel once you've lifted a skillet from a supporting surface. It's amazing how focused you can get when hot things get wobbly. Still: better than the cheap oven mitts I was using before. Its a buy, just remember to keep your grip tight.

Wish it had fit more snug so it would have worked, but seemed otherwise decent

I liked the handle cover itself - sturdy construction, good material, accurate color - but ultimately it was slightly too big for either of the handles of my 2 cast iron pans. It made it impossible to get a decent grip for such heavy pans. I imagine that as long as it fits snug, this would make a great handle cover and easily protect from the heat, but it just didn't work for me and my pans.

Good quality.

I have numerous cast iron pieces of cookware most of which are from Lodge. I had purchased several of the Lodge hot handle silicone covers. This was my first amazonbasics cover. On my cast iron pieces this one is a bit longer and fits looser than the Lodge covers. It appears good quality but would choose Lodge brand over this for a more snug fit.

Works, but be aware of the taper.
by Valued Customer on July 24, 2017

Works well. The only challenge is the taper at the top. My cast iron pan's handle is wider at the tip than the base, which fits this insulator, but that means you have to push it on. That can be challenging with a hot pan, and you don't want to leave this on while your cooking with it. Or at least I don't as the insulation isn't THAT good to withstand a full session of cooking. It works, but slipping it on and taking it off is challenging with a hot pan. I'll be getting one without a taper when this one is done.

Works great for me! (one year in)

It works just fine, I've had none of the problems others have had. It was snug getting the opening over the wider part of the handle, and then was a bit loose - but not enough that it turns or creates issues picking up my 12 inch Camp Chef cast iron skillet. I've been using it for a year with no issues. I do not try to put it in the oven with the handle on it, so I can't report on that. I have heated the skillet up to 500 on the stove top with no issues. The handle doesn't touch the body of the skillet, so that might be why it handles the heat so well. Now I need to get one for the helper handle!

Now I Really Love My Iron Skillet!
by Valued Customer on October 31, 2017

I have a large Lodge Logic iron skillet I love, but I have to use two oven mitts to lift it. That's price of solid iron and a weak wrist. With this handle cover, I can now move it between burners or to the sink far more easily. I can use one hand because of the good grip this hand provides.PROS:Stays on while cooking.Instantly handle your pan whenever you want.Comes in black!CONS:Could be a little thicker when the skillet is very hot. It did not hurt my hands even when the skillet had been on high for some time, but it was very warm. I leave it on the whole time.SUMMARY:A MUST HAVE FOR AN IRON SKILLET!

Don't rely on this alone!

I used this product for the first time tonight while finishing a steak in the oven at 375 degrees F. Luckily, I used an Ove Glove to retrieve the pan from the oven after cooking the steak for 10 minutes and felt no heat through the Ove Glove. Once the pan was back on the stovetop, I carefully touched the silicone handle cover with my bare hand and it was VERY hot. The Silicone Hot Handle Cover handled the heat just fine (no melting, etc.), but be aware that you will still need a hot pad or an Ove Glove when taking a pan out of the oven.

Easily transfers between 3 different sized pans
by Valued Customer on July 11, 2017

Protects my hands from burning while using my cast iron skillet. Easily transfers between 3 different sized pans. It is a bit lose but this doesn't bother me as I do not lift or pull on my pans when they're hot on the stove. If pulling out of the oven, I tend to squeeze the handle and use a 2nd hot pad so that the grip doesn't come off the handle.I use this handle with the Ozark Trail 3 Piece Cast Iron Skillet set - 8"" skillet, 10.5"" skillet and 12"" skillet.

Not exactly what I was hoping for - pan is still hot!
by Valued Customer on May 11, 2018

It's handy for quick meals, but have a 30-minute thing to cook in a stovetop cast-iron pan and this baby is still HOT. You can burn yourself through this. Don't kid yourself, if you plan on having heat on this for more than 15 minutes you won't be able to just grab the handle. This is really just useful for quickly nudging the pan where you need it but not grabbing the pan. Also, you need to take it off when you store the pan or else you'll ruin the protective oil covering and need to reseason the pan.

A must have for any cast iron skillet!

This fit very well on my lodge iron skillet and is an absolute must for stove top cooking. I am easily able to grab the handle without burning my hand to move around or move to another burner or into the oven. It also adds some much need grip to the skillet itself!

Its okay. Not insulating heat which is what this should be doing.
by Valued Customer on December 01, 2017
Verified Purchase

Similar to other reviewer comments, its not insulating heat. You cannot lift the pan without a towel or other added insulation, essentially defeating the purpose of what this was bought for. Its reasonable for insulation if you accidentally touch the handle (without the cover) and get burned, but if you are expecting this to insulate well, then its not the right one.
