In the fall of 2016, I had two replace a Garmin and a Magellan GPS. Neither ever worked very well, so I decided to try TomTom. The device worked better than either Garmin or Magellan right out of the box, but the TomTom MyDrive Connect application would not keep a connection to the GPS unit to update the maps. I worked on this with TomTom for a couple of months until they sent a replacement unit. (The first unit worked great - except the maps were not the latest version.) The update still did not work. The unit got put in a drawer. Skip forward almost 2 years. I'm going to be doing a lot of driving again, so I restarted trying to update the maps which by now are really out of date. Same old problem. Multiple back and forth through TomTom tech support still did not fix the problem. Over and hour and a half today on the phone with a higher level tech support and it's now working like a charm! Am I disappointed that there was such a problem? Of course. But this is the best tech support I have ever had, 100% free for a device long out of warranty, only because of TomTom's free map updates promise. Will I buy another TomTom GPS? You bet I will if this one ever needs to be replace. The moral of the story is be patient and in the case of TomTom, you patience will pay off. Kudos to TomTom!
